A 40 minute flight from London airports takes you to one of the most beautiful cities in the world and the spring and summer are the best times of the year to visit.

You can wander along the 200 year old canals and keep perfectly entertained from the independent shops, cafes galleries and restaurants dotted around the streets.


The architecture is spectacular in the older parts of the city while some areas such as the Eastern dock are slightly more edgy and arty.

Amsterdam is a small city and therefore perfect for a short 2 or 3 night trip. You feel immersed in the city almost immediately and everyone speaks great English so is very accessible and easy to delve into the culture and inner workings of the place.


Kings day is at the end of April where everyone dresses in orange, taking to the streets to celebrate, go to street side markets, eat, drink and be merry.

While the city is certainly busy for this occasion it gives a wonderful insight into what feels like a very happy city and is inclusive for all, young and old.


Other national events such as flag day (which is built around the national delicacy of raw herring) are also worth a short trip across the North Sea.
